Hiking route GR 36
Putanges-Pont-Ecrepin (Orne) to Mont-Saint-Jean (Sarthe) 116 km
The GR 36 connects the Channel with the Mediterranean, more than a thousand kilometers from Ouistreham (Calvados) to Bourg-Madame (Pyrénées-Orientales).
Follow the course of the Orne, from Ouistreham to Ecouché, crossing the awe-inspiring sites of Norman Switzerland via the Roche d'Oëtre (one of the most prestigious natural viewpoints in the west of France), Lake Rabodanges and the loops of the Orne.
It follows the Cance Valley in the Argentinean plain before entering the Ecouves forest via La Lande de Goult and then climbing to Signal d'Ecouves (highest point in Normandy) where it joins the GR 22.
It emerges from the forest at Roche-Mabile and then joins the Alpes Mancelles through the Sarthon Valley to Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei before entering the Sarthe by following the eponymous river.
Hiking route GR 22
Paris- Alençon -Le mont saint Michel
Long before Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle became the place of devotion we know, pilgrims (the Miquelots) flocked to Mont-Saint-Michel in their thousands. With the GR 22, hikers can now walk in their footsteps, from Notre-Dame in Paris to the famous abbey.
The department of Orne offers the longest part of the route with a variant further north.
From east to west you will take you from the rolling hills of the Perche dotted with mansions and majestic forests to the Bocage du Domfrontais, right through the forest of Écouves and Andaines with, at the heart of the latter, the spa town of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne.
